Moving beyond an ‘in perpetuity' mindset.

The original idea for Stewarding Loss started out with a provocation for a ‘Farewell Fund’ which was an indication of how much influence we think resourcing can have on growing capacity for better endings in civil society. We are finding that there is a growing range of work to do in this area that is specifically linked to funding, philanthropy and the redistribution of resources. Over the last 3 years we have been working with a growing number of Foundations in relation to -

How to lead and how to be, when working around dying systems and organisations.

How funders can resource grantees and partners to end initiatives or close down organisations well.

How to close down initiatives in a mission-oriented or portfolio approach to funding systemic change.

How to close down a funding programme, grant relationship or a Foundation.

How to design for spend-downs of endowments or move beyond an in-perpetuity mindset for endowments.
